How long will my cosmetic tattoo last?

Cosmetic tattooing is referred to as a semi permanent procedure, however, anytime pigment is being implanted into the skin it is considered a permanent procedure.

How long your tattoo will lasts is determined through a number of factors including:

Lifestyle
Technician
Pigments
Technique
Health
Skincare

Excessive sun and/or water exposure from outdoor hobbies, habits and occupations will cause your cosmetic tattoo to fade sooner

The training and experience your tattoo technician has will determine the length your tattoo will last as well as the outcome of colour which can never be guaranteed but will have less risk from those who have a more extensive knowledge of colour and the skin

Using quality pigments will ensure your cosmetic tattoo lasts longer and a the colour of your tattoo has a desired outcome

The technique used to create your cosmetic tattoo will play a role in determining how long your cosmetic tattoo will last. For example. a shaded ombre brow implants pigment more superficially and less saturated than a block brow will meaning the colour will not last as long and will require more maintenance

Studies also suggest those with a iron deficiency may use the iron oxide in pigments as a supplement and those with very strong immune systems or auto immune disease will not retain colour pigment in the skin as well

Skincare products containing AHA and BHA’s as well as professional skin treatments including peels. Even when the area is avoided the fruit acids will migrate under the skin causing a loss in colour over time

When will my cosmetic tattoo need a touch up?
Your tattoo procedure is completed over two appointments. Your perfection appointment is to be completed within 12 weeks after your initial procedure to assess colour, shape and saturation. This ensures you will go longer in the future in between colour boosts. From there you can expect a touch up every 1-5 years depending on the original techniques used, your health and lifestyle choices and technician. For example, hairstrokes or a shaded ombre brow will require more maintenance than a block brow as less pigment is implanted into the skin or if you swim in saltwater regularly or work in the direct sun daily.
How much does a cosmetic tattoo cost?

Is a cosmetic tattoo safe?

Each procedure is done in compliance with the Queensland Infection Control Guidelines, Skin Penetration procedures and Health Act.

Your qualified technician will administer each new procedure using only disposables, sterile disposables and needle cartridges in an approved skin penetration premise. All pigments are of the highest quality iron oxide base and contain FDA approved ingredients for cosmetic use.

Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?

Most clients are quite comfortable during their procedure. Effective topical aesthetic gels are used to numb the skin before and during your procedure to ensure maximum comfort the entire time. You may find the first pass scratchy on the skin until we apply your secondary aesthetic. About 10% of clients may be hypersenstive to their procedure.

We do not recommend the use of Emla prior to your procedure due to the ph of this product as this can change the PH of the skin and make it rubbery in texture proving difficult to get colour into the skin.

How long is the healing process?

The initial healing process for normal skin is complete within 5 – 7 days and up to 12 days for mature skin, however, unseen to the naked eye the skin will still be healing itself for up to 65 days after your procedure. The true colour and saturation will appear once a full cycle of desquamation has happened within the layers of the skin, meaning when your skin has gone through an entire process of shedding dead skin cells from the surface of the skin and colour pigment is no longer in the epidermis and only remains within the dermal layer of the skin where the colour will appear cooler.

Will I have imperfections?

Internal (genetics) factors, external factors, your health including medications and hormones, as well as, swelling in the skin or bleeding are some factors that may affect colour retention in the skin. Having your perfection appointment is paramount in completing your procedure to perfect colour (going darker), saturation (going deeper) and dimension. (adding a second colour or hairstrokes)

How can I find the right cosmetic tattoo artist?

1. Do your research
2. Ask the right questions
3. Have a consultation first
4. Is the place clean and safe?
5. Are the needles and accessories disposable?
6. Does the shape and design work have artist taste?
7. Are unedited before and after photos available to see?
8. Ask for references
